FANGHETTO is a dreamy beautiful medieval village in the Ligurian mountains not far from the Mediterranean sea. The first settlement dates approximately from the 12th century, but evidence shows that todays' borgo at least existed since the 16th Century. The inhabitants from Fanghetto made their living by olive and goat farming, a small mountain road connected Fanghetto with the other villages of the hilly Roya Valley. Until the late sixties of the last century the village was alive with shops, bars, a school and many craftsmen, in those days about 200 people lived in Fanghetto. After the second world war inhabitants left the village, attracted by better work opportunities, and in the 60’ties Fanghetto was discovered by curious artists from Northern Europe, and life in Fanghetto changed.

 

The Fanghetto Stories project is collecting the old traditional stories still present in the village and documents the authentic voices of people raised in Fanghetto before the second world war and of those who discovered the village in the 60’ties. The Fanghetto Story Project is work-in-progress and will give you access to this village history (with audio & video material and texts in Italian, English and partly Dutch).

FANGHETTO è un bellissimo borgo medievale da sogno tra le montagne della Liguria non lontano dal Mar Mediterraneo. Il primo insediamento risale approssimativamente al XII secolo, ma le prove dimostrano che il borgo di oggi esiste almeno dal XVI secolo. Gli abitanti di Fanghetto si guadagnavano da vivere con la coltivazione dell'olivo  e con l'allevamento delle capre, una piccola strada di montagna collegava Fanghetto con gli altri villaggi della collinosa Valle Roya. Fino alla fine degli anni '60 del secolo scorso il villaggio era animato da negozi, bar, una scuola e molti artigiani, a quei tempi vivevano circa 200 persone a Fanghetto. Dopo la seconda guerra mondiale,  gli abitanti lasciarono il villaggio, attratti da migliori opportunità di lavoro, e negli anni '60  Fanghetto fu scoperto da artisti curiosi del Nord Europa, e la vita in Fanghetto cambiò.

 

Il progetto Fanghetto Stories raccoglie le vecchie storie tradizionali ancora presenti nel villaggio e documenta le voci autentiche delle persone cresciute a Fanghetto prima della seconda guerra mondiale e di coloro che hanno scoperto il villaggio negli anni '60. Il progetto Fanghetto Story è work-in-progress e ti darà accesso a questa storia del villaggio (con materiale audio e video e testi in italiano, inglese e in parte olandese).
