THE AUTHOR

DOERTE ULKA ENGELKES

is cultural anthropologist and filmmaker. For more than 10 years she is fascinated by truffles and - together with her Lagotto Romagnolo - she discovered many different and rare truffle species all over Europe.

In 2013 she legalized her truffle hunt in Germany and holds one of the first exclusive permits for truffle hunting.

Her comprehensive collection of hypogeous fungi is part of the legendary Herbarium Marburgense at Philipps-University of Marburg.

Doerte Ulka Engelkes runs the small experimental truffle plantation M11 in central Germany. The concept of her truffle farm is the repopulation of edible native truffle species in Lower Saxony. In fall 2017 she harvested her first cultivated Burgundy truffles.
